Selfies… They’re all the rage these days.
We do it without thinking – While commuting, waiting for appointments, out at drinks. Yep, logging into Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest or whatever else takes your fancy is as much of a regular task these days as eating breakfast, lunch and dinner.
As soon as you jump on, chances are, you’ll be bombarded by your fair share of selfies – People snapping themselves out at dinner, on a holiday, at parties… Selfies are part of life!
So, how’s that selfie of yours looking these days? Find yourself not wanting to flash your teeth or maybe using that filter to brighten your smile?
Don’t worry, you’re not alone. According to a recent study conducted by BUPA, bad teeth stops one in four people from smiling in photos. Additionally, four in ten said teeth are the one thing they’d change about their appearance.
Conducted in Britain, the study found that a quarter of Brits refuse to smile in selfies and pictures. Another 81 per cent of people worry about how their teeth look in photographs.
While this study may have been conducted outside of Australia, think of how many people you know who aren’t happy with their teeth. In fact, you might just be reading this now, thinking that your pearly whites could use some work.
What makes things worse are the celebrities we’re used to seeing in the limelight who almost all sport the whitest, brightest and utterly perfect smiles.
So, what should we all take away from this study?
If you’re not happy with your teeth for whatever reason – maybe they’re crooked, becoming more yellow by the day, you’ve got missing teeth – whatever it may be, take that first step towards doing something about it.
Stained teeth? Whitening can result in a whiter, brighter smile in no time (read about our special $295 whitening special that includes a smile evaluation, surface stain removal and the Zoom! In-chair whitening treatment. Offer available at our City and Toorak clinics only).
Crooked teeth? Braces are not what they used to be – There are a range of options available including Invisalign (invisible braces) and cosmetic braces. Learn more about each.
