If having a beautiful smile is a goal that you’ve always aspired to, it is important to find a cosmetic dentist near you that can achieve your ideal smile. Most people think that a nice smile increases a person’s attractiveness. As you look for a cosmetic dentist near you, there are a few factors to keep in mind.

1. What Is Their Experience?

Experienced dentists can offer you a comprehensive range of cosmetic options, will discuss all options and pricing with you. Ask to see their portfolio of cosmetic cases and discuss their experience and your expectations.

2. Look At Pictures

If you are interested in visiting with a particular dentist, ask to see pictures of their work. That will help you determine how well the dentist does their job and whether or not you want similar results. If a dentist does not have photographs of previous clients, that should raise red flags for you.

3. Education

Ask about a dentist’s ongoing education and expertise.

4. Practice Environment

In dentistry, appearances are everything – of the practice environment, the team and the dentists.

5. Personal Rapport

Have you talked to the dentist? What did you think about him or her? Do you feel like you can trust him? Do you think he will do a good job? Personal rapport is very important because you will be spending time with this person and they are performing important work. If you have a sense that something isn’t right, do another search for “dentist near me” and see what you come up with.

6. Dental Laboratory

To achieve some cosmetic options the dentist will work with a dental laboratory.

It is really helpful to know where this dental laboratory is located, can you go to their premises for specific shade selection, what are is their experience and expertise.

7. Ask About Options

Your cosmetic dentist should provide you with several different options. It is important that you know everything that is available to you.

With cosmetic dentistry there are many different options available. It is essential for you to take the time with your dentist to explore all of these options plus pros, cons and pricing so that you select the best option to achieve your ideal smile and fit in with your budget.

Why mindfulness matters

Posted on Oct 27, 2015

Mindfulness. It’s one of those buzz words we hear all the time but what does it actually mean?

In its simplest form, mindfulness is all about just being present and living in the moment. Over the years, gradually, we’ve become a faster paced society where we want everything yesterday and things are moving at a rapid pace all the time.

Sometimes, it takes a real sense of awareness to settle yourself down and have a think only about what’s happening right now. Every now and again, everyone’s mind waivers back to the past and we start thinking about what’s happened. That said, if you’re feeling trapped in your past, that’s when the real problems start and at the end of the day, given you can’t change your past, you’re far better off focusing on the now.

Know that being mindful takes conscious effort and can be developed by participating in activities such as meditation, yoga and walking. If you’re reading this and thinking, ‘what’s the point?’, there are many benefits to practising mindfulness. Being mindful can help to:a

  • Relieve stress.
  • Improve sleep.
  • Keep depression and/or anxiety in check.
  • Make you feel happier.
  • Calm you so that you feel more emotionally stable.

To put it all simply, have a read of this quote from Jon Kabat-Zinn:

“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way; On purpose, in the present moment and non-judgmentally.”

5 ways to reinvent yourself and your life at any age

Posted on Oct 20, 2015

“Someday is not a day of the week.” – Denise Brennan-Nelson

Sometimes, we can get so bogged down with what’s happening on a daily basis that we forget this important fact: we all have a choice.

We tend to overcomplicate things because we over think everything and talk ourselves out of what we already know. At the end of the day, we all have that intuitive sense (or gut feeling) that shows us the way. The trick is tuning into it and having enough faith to follow through with what you know deep down is right for you.

Speaking of being more in tune with yourself, the more you mature, the more external factors fade away and you start realising what you love about your life and what you’d like to dedicate less time to.

As we mature, people commonly experience a shift in how they feel and their behaviour. Suddenly:

  • Pleasing others at the cost of your own happiness doesn’t fly.
  • Forcing yourself to do things just to please others doesn’t work for you.
  • You’re no longer interested in those who don’t positively contribute to your life.

Sound familiar?

If reinventing yourself is in the works, we’ve put together 5 quick tips that’ll help you to relinquish the old and welcome in the new.

Tip #1 – Say no to guilt

Sometimes, when we decide that a fresh start is in order, part of this involves leaving things and certain people behind and it’s only natural to feel guilty about it all. Push that guilt away because it’s just a waste of energy.

Tip #2 – Carpe Diem

Or in other words, seize the day! If you’re not content, shake things up a little and seek that new passion that’ll see you bouncing out of bed each morning.

Tip #3 – Fear is your friend

Anyone who takes a chance and tells you they’re not scared is lying. It’s that simple. Whenever you’re outside your comfort zone, while you may not feel on top of the world, you can be sure that amazing things are in the works.

Tip #4 – Follow your passion

Think back to what you enjoyed doing when you were younger… remember that feeling of pure happiness and joy? Just because you’ve grown up, it doesn’t mean your real passions need to make way for what’s practical and will bring in money.

Tip #5 – Be unstoppable

Have a good, honest discussion with yourself and consider this question:

What is really holding you back?

Chances are, it’s your fears and hang-ups. Whether that relates to your age, your need to feel as though you have a stable job, a fear of failing… put yourself out there, be willing to make a fresh start and just go for it!

Behind every self-confident go-getter ready to reinvent themselves and take on the world, is a great smile! Have a good think about it because smiling is a big part of our lives. It’s a big wide world out there and sometimes, reinventing yourself takes you to places you never would have expected to find yourself.

If you’re feeling good about yourself, there’s really nothing stopping you from taking on the world. If your smile could be better, head down to your local NovaDental dentist to have a chat about what can be done. Invisalign, teeth whitening, dentures, implants… don’t worry, it’s not all as scary and confronting as you think.

We look forward to seeing you but until then, don’t forget to Like our Facebook page and Follow us on Instagram and Twitter so that we can keep you up to date with the latest. You can also sign up to our NovaDental newsletter and of course, make sure you check back in for the latest blogs.

5 steps to a new more confident you: set yourself for success

Posted on Oct 13, 2015

Every now and again, we tend to lose our way in life. And when we say that, it’s not what you’re thinking… we don’t mean letting loose and shirking your responsibilities or experiencing a mid-life crisis or anything too out there.

We think this quote sums things up nicely:

“You may have lost your way temporarily, but do not lose sight of what matters most on your journey back to happiness.” – Leon Brown

It’s incredibly easy to lose track of time and keep things simple by accepting life as it is… the job that doesn’t set that fire in your belly alight… continuing on with the same daily routines because you’re expected to… tick, tick, tick.

We’re all guilty of saying ‘tomorrow’ or ‘later’ but what if that tomorrow or later never comes? We tend to take life for granted but as they say (sure, it’s a little to the point but absolutely true), none of us are getting out of here alive which means every second counts.

If you feel as though your life has strayed away from your ‘ideal’ path, doing nothing is definitely not the answer. As they say, doing things the same way will only produce the same results. Getting your life back on track requires effort and planning and to help you out, we’ve put together 5 tips that will help you to hit reset.

#1: Figure out what you really want

Have you ever asked yourself what you really want? Take away all of the responsibility and commitment that drive your life on a daily basis and think about what really makes you happy. Vision boards are a great way to get it all out and onto paper so that you can visualise and look at what matters to you on a daily basis. The more you look around as you embark on your daily travels, the more you’ll collect inspiration for your vision.

#2: We are all products of our past so learn from your past

Fact: we’ve all made mistakes, some of which we’d really rather forget. It’s incredibly important to acknowledge what’s happened in your past and to take what you need to from it. Just keep in mind that real success stems from positivity and by focusing on your future. Instead of wasting your energy in what’s done and dusted, schedule time everyday to think about what you’re doing, why you’re doing it and what you can do to keep yourself on track. And don’t forget to celebrate your achievements – whether you’re the kind of person who likes to keep a diary or keep an achievement jar, look back at these fantastic achievements whenever you feel as though you’ve hit a wall. That’ll help to keep you motivated and on track so you can power onto your next milestone.

#3: Follow your gut instinct

Ready for a change? If that’s a big yes, what are you waiting for? If you’re sure of the direction you’d like to travel towards, there’s no need to wait for tomorrow or next week. Do keep your expectations in check though… your life may not change overnight but it’s the small steps forward that make all the difference. Give yourself solid goals to work towards by writing down your 1, 3, 6 and 12 month goals on a piece of paper.

#4: Your mindset matters

Those we admire all have one thing in common: they’re persistent. Not just that, they think like winners. When it comes to your success, it’s a real understatement to say that attitude counts. After all, you can have all of the resources, information and mentors at your fingertips but ultimately, it’s your great attitude that will lead you to success.

#5: Surround yourself with the right people

When setting yourself in a new direction, it’s incredibly important that you have people who you can turn to for support. Make contact with likeminded friends and family and chat about your vision. You don’t have to go through such a big change alone: surround yourself with people who you trust and you’ll be able to feed off so that you can stay motivated.

So, what does all of this have to do with dentistry? Your smile and teeth play a big part in your self-confidence and feeling good about yourself. Invisalign, teeth whitening, dentures, implants… if you’re planting your hand over your mouth to hide your smile, give us a call and take a step towards a more confident you.

It’s all about YOU this October!

Posted on Oct 06, 2015 Teeth Whitening - NoveDental Melbourne

Wake up. Make breakfast. Eat. Take the kids to school. Work. Lunch. Pick the kids up. After school activities. Cook dinner. Sleep. Repeat.

Sound familiar?

In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it’s really easy to forget about the most important thing in the world. YOU!

Right about now, you might be tempted to double check whether you’re still reading a dental blog… you are.

Don’t get us wrong, we understand your confusion. So, why aren’t you reading about gum disease, root canals, dental implants, dentures and a heap of other topics you’d expect to find here?

Well, at NovaDental, we think differently. In the 30 years we’ve been providing quality dental care to patients all over Melbourne, the times have changed. Once upon a time, our patients were interested in reading flyers with a heap of dry content about teeth… it was almost expected.

These days, people are looking for something different. They’re still interested in dentistry but in a different way to how they were three decades ago and to cater for the trends we’re seeing across all of our clinics, we’ve decided to do things differently and we’re starting with All About You month in October.

“It’s not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself and to make your happiness a priority. It’s necessary.” – Mandy Hale

There’s that word… did your eyes stumble over it? Selfish.

For some reason, gradually, we’ve come to think that spending a little time making ourselves feel good is selfish. Now, if you’re one of these people, we want you to read, take in this quote and repeat it to yourself everyday (a nice tip is to hang it near your desk or somewhere you look all the time).

“It all begins with you. If you do not care for yourself, you will not be strong enough to take care of anything in life.” – Leon Brown

Most of us can think back to a time when we were feeling at our best… no challenge was too big, nothing was too hard, anything was possible…

So where do we fit in here?

A big part of All About You Month relates back to health because a healthy you is a happy you. And when it comes to your general health and well-being, we know that our oral health plays a big part. How you talk, how you eat, how you feel… all this and more is related to your oral health. Of course, we haven’t even touched on the impact oral health can have on other chronic diseases.

Throughout the month, we’ll be posting blogs and social media posts that provide you with hints, tips and a little bit of info relating to your teeth thrown in. Like our Facebook page and Follow us on Instagram and Twitter so that we can keep you in the loop. You can also sign up to our NovaDental newsletter and of course, make sure you check back in for the latest blogs.
